J-Dawg - Smokin' & Rollin'
J-Dawg is a rapper from New Orleans, LA. He is known for his violently themed fast paced style of flow. He is also one half of the group, Black Menace. This album was released in 1997 on Big Boy Records. Production was excellently done by the likes of Precise, Ice Mike and David Faulk. The beats are made to bang and they fit J's style perfectly. Lyrics are good and J-Dawg makes sure he provides them efficiently. Although at times it seems that he loses interest in his vocal arsenal because he resorts to simple word play and common rhyme schemes. Featuring artists on the record are Ice Mike, Che', Insane and Playboy Shaburnke (also known as Tim Smooth). In 2004, after 5 years of not making any music, J-Dawg released his "Greatest Hits" album on Big Boy Records. Then came the legal technicalities and other issues, mainly concerning royalties which ended the longtime partnership between J-Dawg and Big Boy Records. J was working diligently on his next project, which was considered to be his best work yet. In 2005, he lost everything he had due to Hurricane Katrina. Since then he has kept the fire burning for his music career and is currently working on his next album. Despite everything, J-Dawg will always be remembered as an originator, a hit maker and as an ice cold lyricist.
