2 Real - Any Last Words?

2 Real is a duo that represents from the relentless streets of Houston, TX. The group is composed of brothers Lil' V and Lil' D. The brothers also alternate their aliases as Vinnie Valentine and Mr. Everline. Together, they hold membership in the local collective known as the $tack Pack as well as the legendary, Killa Klan. 2 Real first started out in the mid nineties and debuted with the now highly covetable, "Welcome 2 Tha Real World." After about a fifteen year hiatus, the group finally decided to make a return to the underground rap scene. Any Last Words? is their sophomore effort and it was released independently in 2012 with limited copies. The album, which is somewhat of a mix tape and not an official record, was basically put together for their loyal fans who have been begging to hear some new material by the group. It was also an attempt to get back into the music industry with the hopes of being picked up by a major label. Most of the beats are borrowed from other artists but there are a few that are original in composition and are produced by John Brown The Rebel. His production pattern is pretty solid to say the least and it fares quite well with the overall sound that the group is trying to achieve. The beats are a bit contemporary in structure but they still carry that distinct underground sound that Houston was most known for. The process of sampling is also used by the producer to attain that desired melody. The two most notable coming from Johnny Cash's "Hurt" and Rick James' "Teardrops." Lyrically, both members may have lost a step or two since their last outing but it's good to see that they can still hold their own on the microphone. Their lyrics are still delivered cleverly and aggressively with extra attention towards word play and detail. Rhyme schemes and speech rates are kept at a varying pace so there's never a dull moment. Subject matter is also pretty diverse and open which in turn appeals to a broader audience. Guest appearances are made by Drankk $inatra and various members of the Killa Klan in the form of skits. All in all this was a very respectable release and it's one that certainly pays homage to the group's origins. As we all know, music as a whole has continued to evolve and even the South is not spared from the horrid renditions of today's popular selections. Artists are either selling out for money or for mass acceptance and reception. Still in the midst of all the nonsense, this group showed what it means to keep it real by staying true to their art and to themselves.

Klondike Kat is a pioneer of underground rap from Houston, TX. He possesses a tremendous amount of lyrical talent and charisma. He is also an avid singer as well as a renowned producer. Over the years he has been lending his skills to the likes of the South Park Coalition and the legendary Killa Klan. The Lyrical Lion is his debut album and it was released in 1993 on Beatbox Records. Production is provided by Dope-E of The Terrorists, Keenan Lyles, J Reble and Klondike Kat. The beats are a synthetic blend of early 90's gangsta rap. They rely heavily on the 808 with minor keyboards. Although the rhythms might sound dated, the fact that they are magnificently composed and mixed cannot be denied. The lyrics are made up of the same caliber. Kat crushes the mic with an onslaught of vile rhymes. He brilliantly displays his lyrical flair, track after track. Not to mention his dope story telling ability and the deeply rooted choruses. Featuring on the album are members of the infamous S.P.C. That roster includes K-Rino, Point Blank, PSK-13, A.C. Chill, Dope-E, Aftamath, Kyu-Boi, Bullet, K.O., Triple X, Reload, Black Capone and Bubba Trouble. The album also contains the near ten minute clique anthem known as the "Murder Script." Overall the record is a bit shy with only seven tracks but all of them are equally superior. The South Park Coalition is responsible for being mentors to many present and up coming artists from Texas. Even though, one wont find them or Klondike Kat on the front page cover of a well established magazine, their devotion and love for the underground still remains persistent.

Klondike Kat is a multi talented artist from the neighborhood of South Park in Houston, TX. He's a genuine lyricist, a marvelous producer and an excellent singer. He has been in the business for over twenty years and is very well respected. He also holds membership in the legendary South Park Coalition as well as the infamous Killa Klan. He debuted in 1993 with the album, "The Lyrical Lion." Mobbin' Muzik Melodies is his sophomore effort and it was released in 1997 on Beatbox Records. Production on the album is managed by Icey Hott of Street Military, Mo' Dangerous, Stro, Richard Johnson and Klondike Kat. The beats are assembled with twangy guitars, an ample amount of bass and forceful synths. The array of tracks are soundly mixed and they carry the album especially well. Kat can deliver his rhymes with an approximate sense of ease. His style is unique and his verses flourish with broad subjects. He possesses a vivid vocabulary and leisurely displays it on every ballad. Along with that, he boldly sings most of the hooks and choruses. Guest appearances are made by members of the Killa Klan and the South Park Coalition. That include the likes of Pharoah, Icey Hott, Lil' Flea, Burton Boyz, Fakkulty, K-Rino, Dope-E, Point Blank, Ganksta NIP, Ice Lord, PSK-13, A.C. Chill, Blunt, Jam, Big 20 and Felony. The album also contains two notorious cuts that have ever graced a record. One of them is an eight minute long anthem of the superior Killa Klan known as, "Loc'ed Out Drop Top." The other is a nine minute long S.P.C. tribute, which happens to be the next installment to the original "Murder Script." All in all the record can simply be justified as a melodic classic. Klondike Kat showcases his capability as a pure artist and he certainly provides the underground with a complete masterpiece.

X-Bam Records was a record label from Houston, TX. It was founded by Bam in the mid 90's. The label served as a home to many members of the notorious Killa Klan. It was later shut down due to financial issues. The Classics is basically a compilation album that was released in 2007 on One Stop Entertainment. The record is magnificently produced by the likes of Scarface, T-Mixx, MJG, Icey Hott of Street Military, G-Rapp The General, Doc Doom and Rodney Ex. The beats are a perfect blend of rhytmical synths and sublime bass lines. They represent that classic underground sound that Houston was known for. The lyrics are abstract, yet rough. They contain various word schemes as well as some rapid inflections. The rhymes are courtesy of the Fakkulty, Pharoah, Bam, K.B Da Kidnappa, Lil' Flea, Papa Reu, Ronnie Spencer and Montina Cooper. Overall its a 17 track album that is fine picked and is derived from many underground hits. It also commemorates the legacy left behind by the legandary Killa Klan. In the words of the invincible Pharoah, "....salute the double K's."

Bam is a rapper from Houston, TX. He is a member of the Killa Klan as well as the legendary South Park Coalition. This is the follow up to his debut album, "Pray At Will." It was released in 2000 on Beatbox Records. All the banging production is done by G-Rapp The General and Richard Johnson. They provide nothing but solid tracks back to back. Bam is known for his commanding and vicious delivery. His style of raw lyrics and rough rhymes has not changed much since his first album. Featuring guests are K-Rino, Z-Ro, Fakkulty, Top Dog, Lorenzo and Marolyn. Bam returned with a vengeance and delivered classic material, once again. Overall the record sustains explicit content all through out and it is definitely worth a listen.

K.B. Da Kidnappa - Underground Legacy

K.B. Da Kidnappa is a rapper from the northside of Houston, TX. He represents from the neighborhood of Trinity Garden. He's known for his high adrenaline flow and aggressive delivery. He is a member of Street Military and the infamous Killa Klan. This album was recorded in 2006 on Lock Jaw Entertainment. It was only released overseas when he was touring Australia. Production is all original and its provided by Joe. The beats are mostly synthetic and are composed mainly with the electronic keyboard. All rhymes and flows are strictly from the top of the head. Dope freestyles are presented by K.B. and company. Featuring on the album is Rebirth, Enforcer and Grind Hog. Overall the record is incomparable to others on account of its all freestyle content. It is one that is a must have for any Street Military/Killa Klan fan. Kidnappa is currently working on his sophomore solo effort which is entitled, Black Mamba.

Pharoah - Gangsta Freestyle Volume One (Chopped N Screwed)

Pharoah is a rapper from the neighborhood of South Park in Houston, TX. He's a member of Street Military and he is also the founder of the notorious Killa Klan. He is known for his viciously raw vocal delivery and clever rhyme schemes. He displays exactly that through a live freestyle session with Beltway 8 Records. This album was released in 2004 on Beatbox Records but it was recorded much earlier. Also the Chopped N Screwed version was the only format released. Production along with all the effects are done by Mike Mo. He does an awesome job providing beats that easily bump in the trunk. Pharoah and members of the Beltway 8 Family grace the tracks and showcase their freestyle talent. Overall the eleven track record contains some stand out cuts and flows. The album was later marked as the last album Pharoah recorded before he was sentenced to fifty years in prison for attempted murder and armed robbery.

C-Major is a rapper from the northside of Houston, TX. He is affiliated with the Killa Klan and was also a member of the notorious Gang Society. This is his debut solo album and it was released in 2001 on Affiliated Entertainment. Production is handled by E-Sharp of the Gang Society, Swift, Wish and Muhammad2G. The beats are an ensemble of gangsta ballads and notable club bangers. Heavy bass lines along with menacing hooks caress each track. C-Major was always regarded as a very raw lyricist. His distinct tone and superb ability to rhyme is unmatched. He certainly comes hard on this one and provides the listeners with solid lyrics. Appearances on the album are by Hawk of the Screwed Up Click, E-Sharp of the Gang Society, Endo, Many Facez, Billy Cook, General Tremendous, Doggie, Big Kirk, Mr. Slick and Bus. C-Major happens to be the only artist from the Gang Society who has released a solo album. Although this record did not sell especially well and it ended up being discontinued, it still does not disappoint with the prime content.

Icey Hott is a multi-talented artist from the neighborhood of Hiram Clarke in Houston, TX. Over the years he has grown into a solid rapper, a genuine producer and a very skilled DJ. This is one of the many mixtapes he has released in the underground. School Zone 5 M.P.H. dropped in 2000 on Bayou City Records. Icey Hott provides all the production along with his choice style of turntableism. He excellently rips through all the mixing, cutting and chopping. Some of the beats are borrowed from other artists but most of them are original. Lyrics consists of live freestyles, unreleased cuts and tight versatile flows. Featuring on the mixtape is Pharoah of Street Military, Klondike Kat of the South Park Coalition, Big D and Mafia Genie of the Killa Klan. Icey Hott has appeared on numerous records from the south and he continues his assault on the rap game with the release of his mixtapes. He is currently working on tracks for Lil' Flea's debut solo album.

Big D and Icy Hott are rappers who represent from the neighborhood of Hiram Clarke in Houston, TX. Big D teamed up with the Street Military DJ and released this collaboration album in 2000 on V.I.P. Records. This was the only album released by the duo. Production is done by the one and only Icey Hott. He laced the beats with killer samples, solid bass lines and dope synths. Lyrics are straight but are just shy of impressive. These two are not really known for their lyrical artistry. The album's strong point could most possibly be it's production. Featuring artists are members of Street Military, Big Mello and K-Rino. Although this record might be hard to find, it still was a decent effort by the two and deserves an honorable mention.

G-Rapp is a producer from Houston, TX. He has produced records for many Killa Klan as well as South Park Coalition (S.P.C.) members. He is also the older brother of Lil' Flea from Street Military. This album was released in 1998 on Beatbox Records. This is just a compilation album from the legendary Killa Klan. Production was done by the one and only G-Rapp. He did an amazing job with the beats. The lyrics is what really sets the Killa Klan apart from others. Just about everyone from the Klan is featuring on here. The likes of Street Military, Fakkulty, Bam, Mafia Genie, Gang Society, Slimm, Burton Boyz, Z-Ro and Trae. This album also has the very first Guerilla Maab song ever recorded. A long and over due screwed & chopped version of this album was released by Beltway 8 Records in 2008 commemorating the ten year anniversary of this amazing album.

The beats are pretty tight and Icey Hott provides his signature production pattern. Lyrics are also very good and blend in really nicely with the beats. Featuring guests on the album are Pharoah, Lil' Flea & K.B. Da Kidnappa of Street Military, Malek & Kook of Fakkulty, Z-Ro, South Park Mexican, Mafia Genie, Dat Boy Grace, Rasheed, Filero, Big D, Money Black, Lord Loco, Texas T, Vernon Howard, Keyz and Klondike Kat. Overall it is a decent effort by the Street Military DJ and one that can still stand on its' own.

The group is also affiliated with the legendary Killa Klan. Gang Society went on to release one more album in 1999 and then eventually broke up.

He is regarded by many to be one of the sickest rappers to have emerged from Houston's underground. His flow is straight raw and is delivered with a fast paced tongue twisting style. This is his debut solo album and it was released in 1997 on Beatbox Records. Production was done by Icey Hott, G-Rapp and Klondike Kat and it fits Pharoah like a glove. Featuring on the album are the Burton Boyz. Pharoah is currently incarcerated for armed robbery and attempted murder. He is serving a hefty fifty year sentence. Although now some say that he lost his mind due to smoking a ton of PCP but when he was in his prime, he was a runaway freight train that was impossible to stop.

Fakkulty is a group from the vicious streets of Houston, TX. The four members in the group are Kook, Malek Aleem, Lil' V, and Water Boy. The group is also affiliated with S.P.C. (South Park Coalition) and the Killa Klan. This album was released in 1996 on X-Bam Records. Production was done by Danny Jackson, Doc Doom, Ronald Smith, Rodney Ex and Sinclair. The beats are simply amazing and so are the lyrics. Appearances are by K.B. Da Kidnappa & Lil' Flea of Street Military, Papa Reu, Vonda Hubbard, and Ray Sauls. This is one of the most slept on albums one will ever come across. Also the text written on the album cover is written in Greek and it reads, "Those that break the rules. Dare to deny authority. Educate the street and strengthen the weak."
