Young Bleed - My Own

Young Bleed is a rapper from Baton Rouge, LA. He is a member of the infamous Concentration Camp and is also very well respected through the southern region of the United States. He first started recording with fellow Baton Rouge rapper, C-Loc on C-Loc Records. He then had a joint venture with No Limit Records, who helped by releasing his debut album, "My Balls And My Word." After gaining a good amount of notoriety he decided to leave No Limit over creative differences and royalty issues. My Own is his sophomore album and it was released in 1999 on Priority Records. Production credits are courtesy of Brian "Big Bass" Gardner, Happy Perez, and Steven Below. The all star line up of producers bring forth some of the most harmonic melodies to come across a human ear. Each track is laced with a plethora of instruments this includes wailing guitars, menacing horns, scintillating synths, and of course a solid dose of ruthless drums. The end result is a masterpiece of twelve tracks laid out for Bleed to demolish with his vocal artistry. Young Bleed is hailed as one of the finest lyricist to emerge from the south. His word play is so unique that it is almost indescribable. His relaxing tone and his laid back persona go hand in hand. His rhyme pattern is also very unorthodox. Simply put, Bleed just savagely attacks the microphone. Guest appearances are made by Too $hort, Daz Dillinger, Lay-Lo, Lucky Knuckles, Gram, Uncle Pauly, and Jennifer Brumfield. Overall it is a complete and faultless work of art. This record is considered to be a timeless classic and it should be held in the collection of every southern rap fan.

UGK - Kingz 4 Life

UGK - Kingz 4 Life
The Underground Kingz was a legendary duo from Port Arthur, TX. They were also among the few pioneers of the genre known simply as, Southern Rap. The group consisted of phenomenal rapper, Bun B and his partner in rhyme who was also an excellent producer, Pimp C. This is an underground album and it is the early version of their album called "Dirty Money." It was never officially released on any label but was slated for a release date of the year 2000 for Jive Records. The project was later canceled and the group released the more revised and collectively improved version which is known as "Dirty Money," in 2001. This album contains a couple unreleased cuts along with some remixes that did not make it to "Dirty Money." Production, as always was done by Pimp C, himself. The beats are a perfect blend of smooth bass lines as well as Pimp's excellent choice of samples. Not enough can be said about the chemistry the two rappers use to have in between them. Their ability to trade flows and verses back to back was a feat indeed. They certainly provide that for the listeners on this record. Featuring artists are Too $hort, Kool Ace and 1 Gud Cide. Although the sound quality on some tracks suffers, it should still be looked upon as classic UGK material. The groups' final studio album is set to be released on March 31, 2009. Also, rest in peace to the late, great Pimp C.

Rally Boys - Rally World Vol. 1

Rally Boys - Rally World Vol. 1
Rally Boys is a group from the vicious streets of Dallas, TX. It consists of Kottonmouth, Jizno and Big Ben. This is their debut album and it was released in 1999 on Rally Entertainment. Production was done by Mannie Fresh, Happy Perez, J.P. and Corey Dixon. The beats are smooth and can easily be associated with that southern fried twang. All three members are talented lyricist. Their lyrics mostly resemble the down south hustle and are on point. Featuring on the album is Too $hort, B-Legit, Lil' Keke, C-Loc, Young Bleed, Lay-Lo, Big Tymers, Lil' Wayne, Richie Rich, Mac Shawn and Roger Troutman. Although it is a wonderful record on account of the dope beats, quality southern lyrics and the special appearances of the featuring artists, it still did not generate any prominent success.
